Why MMA Hand Wrapping Matters.
Hand wrapping is an important part of MMA training for several reasons. A proper wrap is more stable, gives increased grip strength and support to the wrists and knuckles, reduces risk of strain or injury, helps with overall hygiene by absorbing sweat perspiration, and aids in preventing breakdown of gloves over time. Hand wrapping is a simple and inexpensive way to improve your performance while protecting yourself from damage.
Initially, hand wrapping may seem a bit cumbersome and time consuming but with practice it can be done fairly quickly and the benefits are worth it in the long run. A typical hand wrap will include wrapping the wrist, thumb loop, base of the palm and back of the hand. Depending on your preferred style of MMA techniques, you may wish to add additional support around crucial areas such as the knuckles or forearms. Having multiple pairs of wraps also helps designate one pair for striking exercises versus grappling or sparring exercises.
Choose the Right MMA Hand Wraps for You.
Choosing the right type of hand wrap for your training is an important step in being successful in MMA. There are many different types of wraps available, including cotton, cloth, and vinyl options. Depending on the activity you’re doing, you may need a longer or shorter wrap, as well as different thicknesses and levels of protection. Before beginning any kind of workout session, be sure to choose the wrap that best suits your needs.
The length of the wrap is also important. Generally, wraps should be long enough to extend past your fingertips. If you’re doing lighter training where you don’t need as much cushioning and protection, shorter 130-inch wraps are usually sufficient. For more intense activities such as sparring and MMA techniques, 180-inch wraps are ideal for offering more coverage and support. No matter what type of material or length you choose, making sure that your hand wraps fit properly is essential for getting the most out of your workouts. Investing in quality hand wraps will not only provide a secure fit but also offer better protection while training.
The Step-by-Step of Wrapping Hands for MMA Training and Competition.
Hand wrapping is essential for many martial arts and MMA fighters as it provides secure protection when striking, wrestling, and grappling. Getting the perfect wrap can help you perform at your best in the ring or cage.
To ensure a secure and comfortable hand wrap, follow these five steps:
1) Wrap the knuckles;
2) Make sure to cover both ulna head and radius head of the wrist
3) Begin wrapping your fist with half a wrap over your thumb
4) Secure the thenar eminence which is the area between your thumb and index finger,
5) Finish off wrapping both wrists. For each step, be sure to look up a hand-wrap diagram specific to MMA to ensure that you wrap correctly.
Wrapping your hands may look intimidating at first but with a little practice, you’ll find that it’s rather easy to do. Make sure to use state-of-the-art wraps that provide the best fit, release perfectly during striking, and don’t constrict your wrist joints.
Quality hand wrapping can help make an MMA fighter successful in competition while also preventing injuries due to pads and gloves not fitting properly. It’s important to find a show appropriate wrap for the particular circumstance you are in as wraps need to meet certain specifications for competition or training.
By following these five steps each time you wrap your hands, you’ll be sure to have strong and securely wrapped hands for every match or session.
Exercises to Keep Your Hands Healthy and Safe in MMA Training.
While wrapping your hands is essential for keeping them safe, you can also perform exercises to strengthen and protect your hands and wrists. Strengthening the muscles of the forearm is a great way to prevent injury — these include wrist curls, hammer curls, farmers walks, and finger extensions. Additionally, stretching the small muscles of your wrist can help increase flexibility.
Try adding dynamic warmups before training sessions to ensure that your hands are ready for a rigorous workout. With these habits in place, you’ll be able to keep your hands safe in any MMA workouts!
Hand wraps are an indispensable part of MMA training, as they provide additional protection for your hands and wrists.
Wraps help to reduce the impact of punches and prevent cuts. When wrapping your hands, make sure to wrap from the pinky knuckle to the thumb, stabilizing with a thumb loop at the wrist. Make sure that the wraps are tight but not constricting. Additionally, always make sure that you warm up beforehand by loosening your joints and stretching. This can help to minimize joint stiffness as well as minimize risks of injury during training.
After Care: Maintaining Hand Wraps to Maximize Protection and Effectiveness.
After each workout, ensure that your wraps are tightly secured and in good condition.
A loose wrap won’t offer the same protection as a snug one, so take the time to adjust, remove and replace it if need be.
Quickly drying your wraps after they become wet is also essential – moisture can cause hand wraps to fray and break down sooner than necessary.
Don’t forget to store wraps away from direct heat or sunlight when you’re done with them! With proper care and maintenance, you can make sure your wraps remain as effective and protective as possible.
MMA Hand Wrapping care:
Here are some tips on properly caring for your hand wraps before and after each session.
- First, use only clean wraps – it’s important to change them after each session to maintain hygiene and eliminate potential bacteria growth.
- Second, secure the wraps firmly, but not too tightly – too tight will reduce circulation, too loose won’t offer any protection.
- After training, check for any tears or signs of damage in the wrap before continuing to use them.
If there is any damage or moisture present, replace the wrap as soon as possible. - Finally, hang them up to dry and store them out of direct sunlight or heat when not in use.
With proper care and maintenance you can make sure your hand wraps remain optimally effective and protective!
When it comes to wrapping your hands, think of it like a game of Tetris.
Every time you wrap a layer, you’re adding a block to your wall of protection. The more layers you add, the stronger your wall becomes.
MMA hand Wrapping Tips:
- Make sure the wrap is not too tight as it can restrict blood flow and cause numbness.
- Be sure to leave enough room for your fingers to move.
- Always wrap both hands, even if only one is injured.

Good quality, can’t go wrong. Fast shipping from Forza Sport, came clean in a sealed package. Thumbs up!
Hand wraps. good quality , and length
good. the handwraps work well enough, and the stretch is a nice feature. The downside is that one is a foot longer than it should be (180 inches), and the other is shorter. Shipping was also hilariously bad, as the packaged was bounced between 2 different post offices for almost a week, and then went to the wrong town and was sent back to its original post office. Shipping should have taken 2 days and instead took a week. You can find these wraps on different sites with free shipping that will get there faster. I was so fed up that I finally did this and ordered a second pair, and it got to me the same day as these did. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Durable and lightweight
So great to have it at home! I love the fact I don’t have to share this with anybody and I have the ease to do this at home at any time I have the chance.
How to Become a Wrap Master. These hand wraps will do. Local gym just got a punching bag and speed bag, so I ordered these just for the new addition.
I am used to the Everlast brand, but those are not as wide, and I prefer the wider velcro, as well; I’m hoping it will last longer.
The wraps were fine, design-wise. They came wrapped, too. I checked them over and no design issues with the fabric, stitching, velcro or thumb-straps.
Even though they are very thin, the fabric seems strong enough, and the slight elasticity to it adds a nice punch.
4 Out of 5 Stars Issue
They smelled terrible upon opening the second plastic bag around them, and had slight, white, moldy stripes on the black pair of wraps; the top pair. The smell punched me in the face when I got closer.
I had a slight skin reaction to this, just unwrapping them to prepare to be washed. (The skin reaction is not part of why I took a star away, because I have access to and could have used gloves, that was my bad.)
They did have a silicone pack to deodorize and absorb moisture, but that was discolored and smelled, as well. It was leaking out from a hole that seemed to be punched in it.
Since I don’t know how long they were sitting in one area, possibly a humid warehouse, this is possible.
– However, the situation can be remedied by washing them by hand in warm water with baking soda, white vinegar and a little Dawn dish soap.
Taking Care of Your Wraps a.k.a. the Wrap Rap
1. ALWAYS wash and dry your hand wraps by hand, otherwise they will fall apart faster, even in a special washing bag. They are handwraps, and will eventually fall apart because of the stress to the fabric.
* Depending on the color, will bleed into the fabrics of your other clothing. They get a real bad rap from this.
* I use a cup of vinegar, 3 drops of Dawn and 1/2 cup baking soda for 1-3 pairs of wraps, and about a full gallon of water to wash and two gallons to rinse. Adjust as needed. Also, tea tree oil, just a few drops, added to the mix is nice for scent and to help prevent bacteria growth and mold.
2. Dry them by hand with a towel to soak up extra moisture before hang drying them.
– When you do this, towel dry by either sitting them in a towel for a few minutes to soak up moisture, or fold them neatly and press on the top and bottom of the fabric.
* If you wring them out, again, it will stress out the fabric and they fall apart faster. I don’t recommend doing this. I.e. not happy, no wrappy.
3. Got wrinkles to betsy in them? They can also be steamed and/or ironed to get wrinkles out.
– If you do iron them, place a cotton t-shirt or other fabric over them to protect the elastic in the wraps and use medium or low temp.
– Iron over the full length of them, not including the thumb-loop; creases will do what? Make them fall apart faster. They’re designed to be wrapped back up.
4. (Optional) Take lots of selfies of yourself in your wraps, with your wraps, just your wraps, fight club in your wraps, eating a wrap while your wraps are peeking out of your bag, taking care of your wraps, etc. But most of all, love your wraps and take care of them. And you. Cheers.
Meister Elite 180 hand wraps. Great wraps, used them today, no issues, secures my wrist tightly.
elastic/stretch material
They aren’t bad but not what I thought they were
Fits loose. Not as tight as I thought it would be.
Protect. Yeah the reason I bought them was to stop my hands from getting skin rash and they did just that.
These came quickly at a good price. The fabric is thin and has a lot of stretch to it. They hold up ok in the washing maching but hand washing is better. So far has worked as intended.
A great product. Hand wraps were very comfortable. The length is the same from the description. Overall, the product protects the hand and wrist from injury,
Quick and High Quality. Very quick shipping, company seems caring and reliable.
As the description said they are 180. The materials are decent, you get what you pay for. I’d give it a 5 star but mine came with orange discoloration, it doesnt bother me all that much but thats the only bad thing i can say about it.
Great products at a good price
Good wraps-good fit. Good wraps. Wish the Velcro was a bit longer but its not a problem. Plenty of length for large hands.
pretty good wraps imho. I got the semi-elastic hand wraps by Meister MMA. Although they’re my first wraps, they feel good on my hands, the length is accurate – very long it’s enough to cover my entire hand and wrap around multiple times, the material is good quality – durable, all in all I rate 5 outta 5 stars
180″ Mexi Wraps. Got the 3-pack of 180″ Mexi wraps, and I’m loving them. Meister’s were cheaper than every other big brand on here, and the quality of their wraps are arguably better as well. I’m sure these will last for quite a while, but when it does come time to buy a new set I’ll be sure to buy from them again.
Good quality Good price. My husband loved these handwraps and has used them a few times now without any issue! Great gift for the martial artist in your family!
Good bang for its buck. It was very elastic and long, material could be a little better but very good for it’s price.
Great. Love the quality. I think these are perfect for heavy bags and sparring.
5 stars. i like this item very much
100% Satisfaction. This was exactly what I wanted. I’ve been doing dozing for a couple years and I just love how these wraps feel. I will definitely buy these wraps again.
I really love these wraps. These wraps were exactly what I wanted. I love the feel, and texture of these wraps.
Awesome. Exactly what my grandson need for martial training with bag !
Good product. Items just as described. High quality easy to use.
